Elizabeth Jaque Retamales is vice president of the Cerro Leones Neighborhood Board. Two weeks after the beginning of the container waste collection system, she remarked that they have had positive responses from the company and the Municipality in response to their needs. She made a balance of the set of steps that they carry out to improve the reality of the neighborhood. Two weeks after the implementation of waste management through containers, the Cerro Leones Neighborhood Board favorably evaluated the start of the system. At the same time, they specified that they continue to manage to incorporate new units, among other issues and needs for the neighborhood. In a dialogue with El Eco de Tandil, Elizabeth Jaque Retamales, vice president of the Board and a resident of Cerro, reported that they have been in contact with representatives of Transportes Malvinas since the implementation of the containers was announced. The neighbor stressed that “until now an exceptional channel has been opened with the people of the company. They have been negotiating with us and trying to give us possible solutions. From the Board we want to thank the company because they have been responding to our needs”.The neighborhood referent reported that “last week there was a meeting between the Municipality and the company, and we presented a letter requesting more containers because they were not enough for the amount of population. They manage with old statistics and Cerro grew.So containers are not enough.”Through the efforts of the Board, its vice president specified, "a higher percentage of containers was negotiated, and recently we managed to bring two new ones."Through a survey of inhabited houses and strategic points, the Board raised requests to add containers, with the aim of having them distributed throughout an area that houses approximately 1,500 inhabitants.“We asked for some black bins, because they brought more rustic containers, made of white sheet metal. The lid is heavy, and the justification is that animals do not get in, that they do not blow away with the wind. But to put it on a neighbor who is older, we manage plastic containers,” said Jaque Retamales.Although, as the vice president of the Board recounted, the system was resisted at first, from the representation of the neighbors they considered that "it is necessary to adapt".And in that sense, she wondered “if it works in big cities, why won't it work here?”The neighbor reported that “with the door to door we came very badly.Because first three days passed, then two, and then none.It was a matter of communicating every day with Claudio Fuentes (General Director of Hygiene and Urban Services)”.Jaque Retamales specified that “the system starts around 6 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. And they have already made us the spare parts of bins for the issue of hygiene or renovation ".And she added that “working together with Public Services and the company we are going to achieve good management for Cerro.Any change takes time, but so far they have been complying with everything”The new Cerro Leones Neighborhood Board was formed last December. It is made up of 12 neighbors and they meet on Thursdays, every fortnight. His vice president remarked that "a team was formed with which we have been working very well, delegating and dividing tasks."She in turn pointed out that "our mission is to manage to achieve improvements in our community."And in that sense, she highlighted positive efforts with the Municipality, and thanked the officials responsible for each area with which they carry out improvement tasks for the neighborhood.“The Municipality team responds to us and allows us to work together.A beautiful work team was achieved, there are always plans, projects, writings on the table to work on.It's nice when you see that there are neighbors who are interested and we can all work forward, ”she stressed. The neighbor transmitted that they are currently working on the issue of public transport, in particular to regularize the frequencies for the area."We were fighting because the schedules were not met, or they did not come, and that is why the Board is dealing with it," she specified.Among the progress made, she highlighted the work of the Green Spaces crews in cleaning and pruning ochavas and vacant or unoccupied land. And he added that the Power Plant has also been giving a satisfactory response to their demands, since branches that hindered wiring were cut and trees that interfered with the networks were cleaned, with the aim of alleviating the power outages that they suffer. against rain and storms. She also stressed the joint work with the Municipal Highway."A survey of the streets was carried out, they were classified by a traffic light system to see which had the highest priority in repairs, because there were impassable streets," she said. She specified that “many blocks were widened and they were working on the stabilized one. These days of rain, the state supervision was carried out, and a very good job has been done.”Among other achievements for the neighborhood, from the Board they highlighted that after repeated meetings and direct contacts with those responsible for the Second Police Station, they obtained a patrol car assigned permanently to the area. The vice president of the Neighborhood Board referred in turn to ongoing projects, for example the joint work between the Primary Care Center and Bromatology that they prepare for August, in order to attend pet castrations.
